The Effect Of Eyebrow Dye

Whether your client wants natural, subtly tinted brows or a real statement power brow, you can get any effect you want with eyebrow dye. We'll explain how and which products to use!

Natural But Darker

Light eyebrows can be dyed a shade darker naturally with regular eyebrow dye like LashFX or Refectocil. With these types of dyes, you will only color the hairs and not the skin, so the result is subtle and not too dark; it's best to use a spoolie or disposable spoolie. Regular brow dye is also the best product to use in combination with brow lamination, as in this case you also want only colored hairs, not a skin print. During this treatment, use an angled brush and not a spoolie! Want to read more about tinting in combination with brow lamination? Read our blog about it.

Lightly Shaded

Does your client wish for eye-catching brows but not be "too much"? Try coloring the hair and skin with a dye that doesn't stay on the skin too long, like LashFX Dark Brown or Refectocil Natural Brown. Apply tint with an angled brush and leave on for 10-15 minutes, and this color will stay on the skin until the next shower. You can also use a light color Bronsun, like Light Brown or Brown. Normally Bronsun lasts up to 7 days on the skin, but not if you use a lighter color.

Super Shape

Is your client after darker hairs and an imprint on the skin for up to 7 day?  Get this look by using Bronsun in a darker shade, for example Dark Brown or Dark Brown mixed with Brown or Grey. Bronsun is very easy to use and leaves a nice print on the skin for just a bit shorter time than with Brow Henna. You could also use Dyotics Brow Henna in a lighter shade such as Honey or Taupe for a similar effect.

Power Brows To The Max

For an intense look, where both hair and skin are really colored, choose Dyotics Brow Henna for your client. Stylist favorite shades like Natural Brown, Hazelnut, Ash Brown or Raven are best for this, depending on skin type and hair. Apply Dyotics Brow Henna with an angled brush or henna brush, and don't forget to dye the skin underneath the hairs! All skin should be covered, and try a leave-in time between 15-20 minutes. We recommend removing the tint in the front of the brows after 5-7 minutes for a natural, ombré effect.

Don't Forget To Patch Test

Eyebrow henna is a product based on natural Indian henna, but color pigments have been added to give the henna a beautiful shade. This substance is called PPD (P-phenylenediamine added) and is actually in all eyebrow and hair dyes. Some people are allergic to this, with dire consequences. Very irritated skin and sometimes even blisters. You should never use brow henna with customers who know they are allergic to PPD. With the other customers who want Henna Brows for the first time, it's important to first do a patch test. Apply a little bit of henna to the inside of the elbow or wrist. If there is no reaction such as redness, burning or itching within 48 hours, you can use henna safely. Please note: a patch test is not a guarantee against future allergies. Sometimes someone still becomes allergic to a certain substance. For that reason, we recommend not using henna more than once every 5-6 weeks, because a customer may then develop an allergy more quickly.

Covid & Allergies

Do you have to do a patch test every time before a brow henna treatment? Luckily not! Once every twelve months is sufficient. Unless something has changed in the health of a customer. Has someone been very ill - be it Covid or some other virus or condition - and does this person have a weakened immune system? Then you may be more susceptible to allergies. An extra patch test will not hurt. When in doubt, it is always wise to do a patch test. Better safe than sorry!
