When perfectionism hinders you: 5 tips for more balance

Mrs.Highbrow perfectionisme

As a brow stylist, you have to be perfectionistic. After all, a client comes for two symmetrical eyebrows and a lash lift must also be perfect. But let's be honest, sometimes we go a little overboard in our pursuit of perfection. When does perfectionism become too much of a good thing?

The benefits of perfectionism

Perfectionism has many good sides. Especially for us brow bosses, it is a trait that is actually unmissable. Think, for example, of setting PMU brows. This simply requires mega precision.

But also for other treatments and running your brow bar you have to be precise. This way you come across as organized to customers and you keep yourself organized as well.

  • Quality: perfectionists strive for the highest quality. They have an eye for detail and deliver perfect work.
  • Reliability: because they perform their work to such a high standard, perfectionists can always be trusted.
  • Perseverance: perfectionists do not give up easily. Once a goal is set, it must be achieved!

The dark side

Fear of failure, FOMO and stress. On the other side of perfectionism, these words take center stage. Often perfectionism becomes dangerous when you go overboard with this.

You've probably been a little too perfectionist yourself at one time or another. You expected only the highest quality and yet a treatment didn't go quite the way you wanted.

You keep blaming yourself because "you can do better." At times like these, it's good to take a moment to stop and ask yourself this, "can I learn from these mistakes?"

Often the answer is. YES!

Risks posed by perfectionism

  • You can't handle making mistakes well.
  • You only pay attention to what went wrong.
  • You spend too long on a, basically, unimportant task.
  • You find it difficult to give tasks to others.

Our 5 tips for a healthy perfectionist balance

With these 5 tips, you'll find a browmazing balance between doing quality work and not being too hard on yourself.

1. Set achievable goals

Determine what is achievable and necessary. This will keep you from setting the bar too high and prevent stress.

2. Accept your mistakes

See mistakes as an opportunity to learn from them. This puts your perfectionism in a healthy perspective. Moreover, in doing so, you work on your personal and professional growth. Win win!

PS: Still don't quite want that one henna brow to work? At Mrs.Highbrow we also have very fun and educational courses! That too is part of your growth.

3. Set priorities

Focus on what is really important. Not everything has to be perfect. For example, it is not helpful if you are still checking your paperwork in your head during a treatment. Concentrate on tasks that really make a difference in that moment.

Otherwise, make a daily list of tasks you really need to complete.

4. Try meditating

Take some time to relax regularly. This is healthy for your body anyway, but you will also notice a difference mentally. Try meditating, for example. Just clear your head and concentrate on yourself.

5. Delegate your tasks

Delegation is hard! Especially for perfectionists. But trust that your colleagues have the knowledge to do tasks well. By delegating some work from time to time, you reduce the pressure on yourself.

So.

Perfectionism has many good sides.

If you are too perfectionistic, things can start to backfire on you in your salon.
