1. Can you combine Henna Brows with Brow Lamination?

A question we get asked a lot! But we do not recommend the combination of Henna Brows and Brow Lamination, because the effect would simply be too much. The goal of Brow Lamination is to create a natural and fuller effect by laminating the hairs upwards, with the focus on the hairs. If the brows and the skin are tinted with henna afterwards, the effect of Brow Lamination will be gone because you won't be able to see the hairs anymore. If you do want to add a tint to the hairs, we recommend using "regular" eyebrow tint, like Refectocil or Bronsun, as they fade slightly faster from the skin, making the overall effect more natural. Make sure you only let the tint soak in for about 5 minutes because it works much faster after a lamination treatment!

    2. What if the colour is too light after removing the henna?

    No worries! If you feel that the shade you have used is too light you can apply another layer almost immediately after applying the first layer. Or, you can also apply another layer of slightly darker henna after removing the henna.

    3. Can you make the henna lighter if it is too dark?

    Always keep in mind that is very difficult to lighten henna! Is your result really too dark? You can try brushing a cotton ball with Dyōtics Tint Remover over the brows a few times, as this may lighten up the brows just a little bit. It won't work to re-tint the brows with a lighter henna shade, so be sure not to try that. As a rule of thumb, it's better to start lighter and choose a shade that's not too dark.

    4. Can you use henna on pregnant women?

    We do not recommend henna for pregnant women. It has not been proven that henna is harmful to the baby, but as with normal hair colouring, it is not recommended during pregnancy. Hormonal balance changes during pregnancy, so the skin may be more sensitive or an allergy may occur, and an allergic reaction is particularly unpleasant during pregnancy! Make sure that after the pregnancy you do another patch test on the client to make sure she has not developed an allergy.

    5. How do you keep the colour on your skin as long as possible?

    This is a question that comes up time and time again! Which makes sense, as this is one of the goals of brow henna: a tint on the skin that's visible for as long as possible. But how do you ensure this? It's worth remembering that skin cells are constantly renewing themselves, which is why the henna often only remains on the skin for 5 to 14 days. To ensure that the colour lasts as long as possible, you should take the following into account:

    • Before you start, clean the brows thoroughly, for example with Dyōtics Skin Prep Lotion. Then dry the skin thoroughly;
    • Make sure the henna is not applied too thinly and that the skin under the brows is completely covered;
    • Press and stamp the henna well into the skin using a brush;
    • Leave the henna to take effect for the right length of time (not too short).

    6. What other reasons can cause the colour to fade quickly?

    You have followed all the steps correctly, but the colour still fades more quickly than expected. What other reasons could there be for this?

    • The client has a very oily skin that does not adhere well to the henna;
    • The client uses oil-based facial products;
    • The skin had not been cleaned properly and there was still some makeup on the skin;
    • The client has very full eyebrows, making it difficult to cover all the skin under the brows with henna;
    • The client's eyebrows are too thin, which means that the henna didn't stick properly. The henna only affects the skin where there is some hair;
    • The client has wet or cleaned her brows within 24 hours. Sport or sweating in the first 24 hours can also cause the henna to fade quickly;
    • You have applied a shade that is too light to a skin that is too dark.

    7. Do you have to do a patch test before each treatment?

    A patch test (or allergy test) is a simple method of finding out if a client is allergic to henna. In principle, every client who uses henna for the first time should undergo a patch test. It's also wise to repeat the test once a year, as sometimes a client can develop an allergy. Perform a patch test again if a client has been pregnant or very ill (due to a change in their hormonal balance). Here you can read more about how to perform an allergy test.

    8. What are reasons not to recommend henna brows?

    In a few cases it is better not to use henna and to choose for a different kind of tint or no tint at all. Henna is a no-go in the following cases:

    • When a client is pregnant;
    • When a client is under the age of 16;
    • If a client has very irritated skin or an allergy to henna;
    • If a client has very blond eyebrows in combination with very light skin;
    • If a customer has little or no eyebrow hairs.

    9. How do you know if someone is allergic to henna after doing a Patch Test?

    After testing the henna on the arm or inside of the elbow, an immediate allergic reaction can occur, such as a burning sensation or itching. If this occurs, remove the henna immediately. If there is no allergic reaction within 48 hours of the Patch Test, you can safely use the henna.

    10. The best care tips after treatment?

    The following five tips can be used to keep your eyebrow henna looking good for as long as possible:

    1. Keep the eyebrows dry for at least 24 hours;
    2. Avoid high-intensity exercises that cause you to sweat as much as possible. Also avoid the sauna;
    3. Use as few cleaning products for the brows as possible;
    4. For the first 24 hours after treatment, do not sit in full sun or on a sunbed;
    5. In case of a lot of sun, apply a high SPF to the brows for as long as the tint remains on the skin.
