Great skills? Check. High-quality wax? Check. And still… some hairs just won’t come out. Frustrating? Definitely. But thankfully, it’s often easy to solve. So here it is: the top 5 reasons your wax might not be working perfectly, and what you can do to fix it.

The 5 Most Common Waxing Mistakes, And How To Fix Them

1. The Hairs Are Too Short.

Short hairs, especially after shaving, are more difficult to remove with wax. Use a Point Tweezer to catch those stubborn stubble or ingrown hairs that remain.

PRO TIP: Always apply a soothing product after waxing to reduce redness and calm the skin. Mrs.Highbrow Cool Down After Epilation Gel contains anti-inflammatory aloe vera, cooling menthol, and nourishing castor oil.

2. The Skin Is Too Moist.

Moisture ruins good adhesion. Use a bit of talcum powder to absorb sweat or leftover product, and make sure the skin is completely dry before waxing.

PRO TIP: Encourage clients to arrive with a clean face – no creams, oils, or makeup in the brow area. This prevents poor wax grip caused by residue on the skin.

3. The Hairs Are Lying Flat

When hairs are lying close to the skin, wax can’t grip them properly. Apply a light dusting of talcum powder beforehand to make them stand up more.

PRO TIP: Brush brow hairs upward with a spoolie before waxing. This helps lift them off the skin and allows for more precise waxing, especially with fine or flat-lying hairs.

4. The Wax Isn’t Hot Enough

One of the most common causes: wax that’s too cold. It won’t grip well. But too hot, and you risk burning your client. The solution? Use a reliable wax heater with accurate temperature control.

👉 For a 2 cm layer of Film Wax, 65–80°C is ideal. Check the consistency: if the drop on your spatula almost stops running, the temperature is just right.

PRO TIP: Don’t overfill the pot. Refill as needed. It heats faster and saves time.

5. You’re Waxing In The Wrong Direction.

Always apply wax in the direction of hair growth, and remove it against the grain. Stretch the skin tightly to reduce pain and improve effectiveness.

PRO TIP: Use smaller amounts of wax and work in short, targeted strokes. Especially in the brow area, where hair growth direction changes quickly, this gives you more control and better results.
